Finance Minister Abul Maal Abdul Muhith said that allocation in the education sector would be enhanced in the upcoming national budget, aiming to ensure world standard education.
“The government was busy to develop the power and energy sectors. Now the government is now working for the development of the education and health,” he said.
The minister was speaking at a scholarship giving ceremony as the chief guest held in the Officers’ Club organised by Shahjalal Islami Bank Limited.
President of Directory Council of Shahjalal Islami Bank Limited, AK Azad, presided over the programme while Economist Hafiz Uddin Majumder and former Adviser to the Caretaker Government Tapan Chowdhury were present as special guests.
The minister expressed his satisfaction at the outcome of the primary education, but put emphasise on secondary level education.
“It is good that about 97 percent students go to primary schools. But with the passage of time, 40 percent students drop out at the secondary level. It is our great concern. We are optimistic of reducing it by 20 percent and improve the education standard,” he said.
With reference to the importance of scholarship, he said that the scholarship would inspire the students in study and research.
“Academic certificate is not a great matter. It just helps the students find out the way of the knowledge. The people acquire the strategy of learning knowledge in the institutions,” Abdul Muhith said.
