Two suspected killers were killed in a ‘gunfight’ with police at Halishahar in Chittagong city on Wednesday when police tried to arrest the accused in a cop killing case.
Three police personnel, including Sub-Inspector Pritom, sustained bullet injuries during the encounter, said Kazi Matiur Islam, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Double Mooring Police Station.
The deceased have been identified, as Nasif, 25, resident of Halishahar and Rajib, 25, resident of the port city’s Double Mooring area .
The encounter occurred at about 4:00am at Halishahar’s Baribadh when a team of police went there to arrest the suspects, the OC said.
Miscreants stabbed a police nayek to death at Agrabad in Chittagong city on Monday night when he was returning home after doing his professional duty at Oxygen intersection, the OC added.
After the murder, police filed a case with Double Mooring Police Station against several persons, including Nasif and Rajib.
As soon as the law enforcers reached the Baribadh area, the miscreants opened fire on them, forcing the policemen to retaliate.
After the ‘gunfight’, police found the bodies of Nasif and Rajib lying on a pool of blood. The law enforcers also recovered a gun, several machetes and five bullets from the spot, the police official added.
