When the government has taken initiatives for zero tolerance following the child marriage, a section of government officials allegedly have been violating the order and issuing permission to settle the child marriage.
Upazila Women Affairs officer of bordering Moheshpur in Jhenaidah on August 7 issued this sort of permission to settle the marriage of a class nine student Rahima Khatun, studying in Bamangachhi Dakhil Madrasa. Rahima Khatun is a daughter of Anwarul Islam of Ramchandrapur village in same upazila.
Locals alleged Women Affairs Officer in a small letter locally known as chirkoot allowed the child marriage in written. But the marriage ceremony was delayed for some unknown reasons, which was solemnized about 5 days back in the village anyhow. It came to public on Monday.
Saiful Islam, Upazila Women Affairs officer of Moheshpur when contacted admitted that he had allowed the child marriage in written.
The letter for permission of the child marriage was advised by Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) of Moheshpur Ashafur Rahman, he added.
When contacted , UNO Ashafur Rahman denied of any advice from his corner for any child marriage. The UNO rather said, the administration has been conducting drives against child marriage as per the government directives and show zero tolerance in this regard.
