Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Md Shafiqul Islam said that everyone who goes to the market and shopping mall must wear masks for public safety in the wake of the ongoing pandemic.
“To stem the transmission of coronavirus outbreak, proper hygiene rules have to be followed along with wearing masks,” he said. The DMP commissioner made the call on Wednesday at a meeting on the security of markets and shopping malls held at the DMP headquarters here on the occasion of the upcoming holy Eid-ul-Fitr.The DMP commissioner said: “In this situation of coronavirus, we all have to follow the hygiene rules. The leaders of the market owners’ association will walk around the market in the presence of the police to motivate the people to wear masks and follow the hygiene rules.” He asked the Deputy Commissioners of Police (DCs) of the concerned departments to take action for violating guidelines.
The DMP commissioner urged the police as well as the owners of the houses and markets to be vigilant to ensure their own safety, gold shops and empty houses during the Eid holidays.
The DMP commissioner said the DMP’s money escort service can be used if necessary to carry large sums of money.
He directed the senior officials to form a special team to prevent snatching and nab oggyan and molom parties.
He also gave various directions regarding security of banks and shopping malls, curbing adulterated food, keeping commodity prices stable, maintaining overall security, law and order and traffic management in Dhaka metropolitan area.
Senior officials of Dhaka Metropolitan Police were present on the occasion.
