All are set and a four-tier security measures have been ensured for observing the International Mother Language Day-2016 in a befitting manner in the city.
Hundreds of organisations and individuals have been taking preparations to pay homage from Saturday midnight to the Language Martyrs who made supreme sacrifices for establishing the rightful place of the mother language in 1952 and inspired the nation to launch struggle for an independent Bangladesh.
Different political parties including Bangladesh Awami League and its front organizations, BNP, Jatiya Party, Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal, CPB, NAP, Sammoybadi Dal have finalized their programmes to observe the day. The programmes include placing of wreaths at Shaheed Minar at zero hour, discussion, silent procession in the morning, cultural function and photo exhibition. Chittagong District Administration has chalked out elaborate programme keeping conformity with the national schedule on this occasion.
The programme was finalized at a meeting held last week with Deputy Commissioner Mezbah Uddin in the chair at the conference room of DC.
A management sub-committee was formed at the meeting to organise the programmes smoothly. An Additional deputy commissioner has been made convenor of the sub-committee.
The programmes include hand writing, drawing and singing competitions for children at Shishu Academy on Sunday, discussion meeting, children gathering at Mukta Mancha, cultural function and prize distribution among children, decoration of important road islands with colorful festoons inscribed with Bengali alphabets and hoisting of the national flag half mast.
Special prayers at mosques, temples, pagodas and churches seeking divine blessings for the souls of language martyrs will also be held.
Commercial artists and painters are busy in writing banners, festoons and other artworks for their clients while flower vendors at DC hill, Momin Road and Proborthak Intersection are collecting flowers for selling on this occasion.
