Different government, semi-government, autonomous bodies, socio-cultural organisations, political parties and educational institutions have completed their preparations to observe the ‘Amar Ekushey’ and International Mother Language Day-2020 on February 21 (Friday) in the district with due honour and festivity.
According to official sources, the district and upazila administrations
and other organizations have chalked out elaborate programmes to observe the
day in a befitting manner.
The programmes were finalized at a preparatory meeting recently held at the Deputy Commissioner’s office with Deputy Commissioner (DC) Md Helal Hossain in the chair.
In Khulna city, the programme will begin at one minute past after midnight on February 21 where State Minister of Labour and Employment Begum Mannujan Sufian will place wreaths at the Central Shaheed Minar in City’s Shaheed Hadis Park to pay due respect to the Language Movement Martyrs.
Later, Mayor of Khulna City Corporation (KCC) Talukder Abdul Khaleque, Muktijoddha Sangsad, Divisional Commissioner Dr Anwar Uddin Howlader, Khulna Metropolitan Police Commissioner (KMP) Lutful Kabir, Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Khulna Range Dr Khondokar Mohid Uddin will place wreaths from their respective offices.
Deputy Commissioner Helal Hossain along with officials of the district and upazila administrations will also place floral wreaths there to be followed by the other government and non-government departments and organizations.
Bangladesh Awami League (AL) and its front organizations and other political parties, social, cultural and professional organizations and common people will also place wreaths to pay homage to the Language heroes.
Khulna University of Engineering and Technology (KUET), Khulna University (KU), Khulna City Corporation (KCC), Khulna Press Club, Khulna Union of Journalists (KUJ) will also place wreaths at the Shaheed Minar as a mark to pay respect to the language heroes.
The other programmes including hoisting of national flag at half-mast atop of all buildings, educational institutions, probhat ferries (morning processions), decoration of the streets with miniature national and colorful flags inscribed with Bengali alphabets.
Besides, competitions for the children on drawing, essay writing, rendering patriotic songs, and recitation of poems and sports competitions for the students will be arranged along with screening of documentary films.
BSS from Rangpur reports : The district administration at a meeting here today chalked out programmes to observe the “Shaheed Dibash and International Mother Language Day-2020” to pay homage to the Language Movement Martyrs today .
Organised by the district administration, Deputy Commissioner of Rangpur Md. Asib Ahsan presided over the preparatory meeting held at his conference room in the city. Officials of the district and upazila administrations, districteducation and primary education offices, heads of different educational institutions, socio-cultural, political and professional activists and civil society members attended the event.
Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Syed Enamul Kabir, Secretary of Rangpur City Corporation Md. Rashedul Kabir, Additional Superintend of Police Fazle Elahi, Assistant Police Commissioner (City SB) of Rangpur Metropolitan Police Sharif Al Rajib, President of district Mohila Awami league (AL) Mortuza Begum, and its General Secretary Advocate Jakia Sultana Choity, among others, addressed.

Leaders of Rangpur district and city unit Commands of Bangladesh Muktijoddha Sangshad, AL and other political parties, heads of different educational institutions, professional organizations and common people will place wreaths there.
The other programmes include hoisting of the national flag at half-mast atop all buildings, educational institutions, ‘probhat ferries’, decoration of city streets with miniature national and coloured-flags inscribed with Bengali alphabets.
Besides, competitions for children on drawing, essay writing, descent hand writing and patriotic songs and sports for underprivileged children will be arranged along with screening of documentary films on the language movement.
The language movement veterans will be accorded receptions and cultural functions be organised to mark significance of the day and special prayers will be offered at mosques, temples, churches, pagodas and other places of religious worships.
Cultural functions will be organised, the local daily, weekly, fortnightly, monthly, online and others newspapers will publish special issues and Rangpur Betar Kendra air special programmes narrating significance of the day.
Rangpur City Corporation, Begum Rokeya University, Rangpur Medical College and other educational institutions, sociocultural, political and professional organizations will observe the day in a befitting manner.
The district administration will organise the main discussion on the Central Shaheed Minar premises in the afternoon to be followed by colourful cultural programmes there in the evening.
BSS from Rajshahi adds: Different government, non-government, volunteer and cultural organizations including the Rajshahi City Corporation (RCC) and the district and the divisional administrations have chalked out elaborate programmes to observe the Amar Ekushey and International Mother Language Day in a befitting manner here today .
The programmes include placing floral wreaths at Shaheed Minar, hoisting of national flags at half-mast atop all public and private buildings and holding mourning processions.
Marking the day, the city streets will be adorned with miniature national flags and coloured flags inscribed with Bengali alphabets. The programmes also include recitation from the holy Quran and discussion at the Islamic Foundation office, art and literary competitions for school and college students at the Shishu Academy and screening of documentary films on the Language Movement.
Language veterans will be accorded a reception on the occasion. Besides, a discussion and cultural function will be organised at the auditorium of Shilpakala Academy, officials said. The RCC has taken up elaborate programmes to observe the day.
City Mayor AHM Khairuzzaman Liton is likely to open the day’s programme by placing wreaths at Bhuban Mohan Park Shaheed Minar in the morning.
Meanwhile, Rajshahi University, Rajshahi University of Engineering and Technology, Rajshahi Medical University, Rajshahi Education Board and other public and private educational institutions have drawn up different programmes to observe the day.
