In the wake of the High Court’s bail to BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia, eminent jurist Dr Kamal Hossain on Monday urged all to realise the importance of an independent judiciary.
He made the call in a statement issued following High Court’s bail to Khaleda. “The High Court granted bail to former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia. Though it got delayed for some days to get the order in this case (Khaleda’s case), bail should be given regularly in such cases,” Dr Kamal said in the statement.
Where there is rule of law, he said, the independent judiciary ensure the neutral enforcement of law. “All must realise the importance of the independent judiciary for the betterment of the country and its people.”
Earlier, in the day, the High Court granted a four-month interim bail to BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia in Zia Orphanage Trust graft case.
The HC bench of Justice M Enayetur Rahim and Justice Shahidul Karim passed the order after a hearing on a bail petition in the case.
Meanwhile, Krishak Sramik Janata League president Abdul Kader Siddique voiced satisfaction over the HC bail to Khaleda.
In a statement, he also congratulated the apex court and the BNP chief.
“I think people’s confidence in the apex court will be increased through giving bail to Begum Zia,” he added.
