City Mayor Rezaul Karim Chowdhury has instructed the contractors to coordinate with the local councilors while carrying out development work. He said this at the second general meeting of the board of Chittagong City Corporation (CCC). The meeting was held at Nagar Bhaban in Andarkilla on Monday.
The mayor indicated that the campaign to evict illegal installations from the meeting would be intensified.
He said all illegal installations in the city would be evicted. Canals, drains and government places will be vacated.
The terms of the city’s beauty bond agreement should not be violated and anything reprehensible in the name of beauty enhancement should not be tolerated. Rezaul Karim Chowdhury said the elected council is a joint family. The city needs to be made livable within the stipulated period of integrated participation of each family member.
He said that within 100 days of taking charge, we have started a patch-work program to alleviate visible problems and civic grievances on a priority basis. The benefits of this ongoing work are being reaped. The mayor said the program focuses on cleanliness, mosquito eradication, lighting and repairing dilapidated roads. He said that in some cases, there was a shortage of mechanical equipment, quality construction materials and mosquito repellent pesticides.
However, it will not deviate from the progress of the work.
Mayor called on the councilors in their respective wards to make the locals aware of the strict adherence to the World Health Organization-recognized hygiene rules and government guidelines.
