Communications Minister Obaidul Quader on Monday said all the roads and highways across the country will be fit for smooth traffic by next seven-day. The minister told reporters while inspecting the progress of the construction work of Dhaka-Mymensingh highway at Chandnana intersection here.
He asked local administration to remove makeshift shops along the highways to ensure smooth movement of vehicles. Ensuring smooth movement of traffic, the communication minister said, plying of all vehicles-trucks and covered vans- carrying heavy commodities including wood, cement and rod would be stopped three days before the Eid and it would continue two days after the Eid holiday.
The minister said Dhaka-Chittagong, Joydebpur, Dhaka-Mymensingh and all other roads and highways will be ready for smooth traffic.
The minister also asked local administration to stop plying of illegal three-wheelers on highways to ensure smooth movement of vehicles.
Project director of Dhaka-Mymensingh four lane Brigadier general Sazzad Hossain, Deputy project director Colonel Jubayer Salehin, Road and Highways additional chief engineer M Afatb Hossain and all other concerned officials were present during the visit.
