Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) Mayor Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh on Tuesday said they will recover all the canals from encroachers and clean those before next monsoon.
The DSCC mayor made the remarks while visiting the ongoing Shyampur canal cleaning work in the capital.
Responding to a question, the mayor said they are going to take a short-term and long-term working plan to solve the waterlogging problem of Dhaka city.He said initially they are starting the short-term work with DSCC’s own funds and their first priority would be recovering the canals from encroachers, based on the CS map.
About taking over responsibility of the drainage system from Wasa, Taposh said they will take necessary manpower and equipment from Wasa.
The mayor also visited Trimohini canal and directed authorities concerned to demolish the structures which were constructed illegally in the alignment of the CS map and directed to set up boundary pillars as early as possible.
