Business Desk :
E-commerce platform Alesha Mart has announced to resume operations from December 19.
Manjurul Alam Sikder, chairman of Alesha Holdings Ltd, made the announcement while addressing a Facebook live on the company’s verified Facebook page on Wednesday.
“We will deliver all due orders and refunds to consumers from between January 15 to January 30,” he said.
He also expressed hopes saying, “We will be able to start the refund process after 8 to 10 days of resuming our operations. Customers who will be notified via text messages or calls are being requested to visit our office to receive their refunds,” he said. About the delay, the company’s chairman said, “December month is a closing month for banks. They also have to sort out issues with their accounts and loans. This bars them from supporting us with funds.”
He also thanked the government for helping the company with guidance through standard operating procedures. Earlier on December 2, Alesha Mart announced closure of their office and all formal activities citing security reasons. The company also claimed that some of its officials were attacked inside their office by some agitated customers.
Later on December 05, the company sent two letters to the commerce ministry, one of them seeking Tk300 crore in loans from the government to cover working capital deficiency, operational costs and payment of customers’ dues.
In another, Alesha Mart requested protection by law enforcement to allow them to resume their operations.
“We do not have any provisions allowing cash support to a company. We recommended the Ministry of Home Affairs to ensure Alesha Mart’s security,” Commerce Ministry Additional Secretary and Director-General (Digital Commerce Cell) AHM Safiquzzaman said.
