Court Correspondent :A Dhaka court yesterday (Thursday) sent Jubo Dal President Syed Moazzem Hossain Alal and five others to jail in a case filed under the Special Power Act 1974.Magistrate Md Asaduzzman Nur of Dhaka’s Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Court passed the order after Sub-Inspector Nayan Miah of Mohammadpur Police Station produced them to the court on completion of their three-day remand.Five other accused are Saidur Rahman, a member of central unit of Juba Dal, Jahangir Hossain Hawladar, Alal’s personal secretary, and three Juba Dal activists namely Abul Kalam Azad, Kamrul Islam and Rubel Howladar.On October 26, the same court of Dhaka placed them on a three-day remand each and sent the remaining 56 accused to jail rejecting their bail pleas.Meanwhile, defense lawyer Md Sanaullah Miah filed a petition seeking bail for the accused, including Alal, but the court rejected the bail pleas.Mohammadpur police arrested 63 leaders and activists of BNP and its front organisations including Alal, from Alal’s Lalmatia residence on October 25. Police claimed that they gathered there to join a meeting arranged to work out a plan to carry out subversive activities during the hartal (shutdown) of October 26. Later, a case was filed against them for their alleged role in planning subversive activities.
