The Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Court of Dhaka yesterday (Sunday) placed Jatiyatabadi Juba Dal President Moazzem Hossain Alal and five others on three days’ remand each in a case filed for plotting to carry out subversive activities during Sunday’s hartal (shutdown).
Earlier, on Saturday police detained Alal and 62 others from Alal’s Lalmatia residence and filed a case against the accused at night. Former BNP MP Alal was named the main accused.
Magistrate Asaduzzaman Nur granted the remand after Mohammadpur Police produced the six leaders and activists of Juba Dal, the youth wing of BNP, to his court with a ten-day remand prayer in the case filed under the Special Power Act.
Others put on remand with Alal include: central committee member Saidur Rahman, Ward unit leaders Abul Kalam Azad, Kamrul Islam and Rubel Howlader. However, Jatiyatabadi Sramik Dal president of Ward 46, was not placed on remand as he fell sick inside the courtroom during Sunday’s procedure. He sent to a hospital for treatment.
