The ruling Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader on Wednesday said, his party will not organise any counter programme, but their party men will stay in streets.
“We shall not hold any counter programme of any party. But I shall ask our party men to stay on streets to ensure there is no anarchy,” Obaidul Quader said it while addressing a public meeting at Pangsha Upazila of Rajbari district.
The public meeting was held at Gopalbari High School play ground.
Upazila AL President AKM Shafiqul Murshed Arzu presided over the programme.
The Ruling Awami League led 14 party alliance and the BNP have announced rallies on the same day in the capital on Saturday.
The BNP on Tuesday shifted its rally to Saturday from Thursday as per the Police suggestion.
The party said it would hold its public meeting at Suhrawardy Udyan in the capital.
On the other hand, the AL on Tuesday announced that it would stage a rally the same day (Saturday) at Mahanagar Natya Mancha at Gulistan in the city.
But the party leaders said, their Saturday’s programme at Mohanagar Natya Mancha will be organised in time.
They did not think it as a counter programme of the BNP.
When contacted, AL Presidium Member Colonel (retd) Faruk Khan told The New Nation, “Our Saturday’s programme at Mohanagar Natya Mancha will be held in time. It should not be considered as a counter programme of the BNP, because we have not announced the programme in Suhrawardy Udyan at the same venue of the party.”
On Tuesday, Health Minister and AL Presidium Member and Coordinator of the alliance Mohammad Nasim said, “The political field in Dhaka will be ours. The 14 party alliance will hold a rally in the Mahanagar Natya Mancha on Saturday. We want to see who will be there and who will not.”
He said it after a preparation meeting of the alliance at AL central office in the city’s Bangabandhu Avenue.
The programmes of the two major parties the same day heated the political atmosphere.
Amid this, the AL General Secretary said, they are not organizing any counter programme.
He said those who fear are supposed to hold counter programme, but we are not panicked. So, we need not organize any counter rally.
