General Secretary of Awami League Obaidul Quader on Saturday said that his party would not accept any foreign prescription about the upcoming Parliament election.
The Road Transport and Bridges Minister said, “We want to hold a participatory, free, fair and credible general election as per the Constitution.” “We shall not bend to any foreign pressure on the issue of holding the next general election. We shall rather follow the democratic processes of our own country,’ he said.
The AL will hold a grand rally at Suhrawardy Uddyan on March 7 on the occasion of the historic speech of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman on this day in 1971. The United Nations Education, Scientific and Cultural Organisation recognised the speech as International Memory of the World Register on October 31, in 2017.
The party has chalked out long programmes to observe the day from March 1, including holding of rallies and processions at district, upazila, thana and union levels, a party press release said.
While replying to a question asked by a reporter, Quader said that the Prime Minister and President of the Awami League, could take part in election campaigns before the declaration of the national election schedule by the Election Commission.
