BSS, Dhaka :
Awami League General Secretary and Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader yesterday said his party would place 11-point proposals during dialogue with the Election Commission. “EC will hold talks with Awami League on Wednesday. AL will give 11 specific proposals. It is not any secret thing,” he told newsmen after the reception of newly-joined Secretary of Road Transport and Highways Division Md Nazrul Islam and farewell to the outgoing secretary MAN Siddique at the ministry meeting room.
Appreciating BNP’s participation in dialogue with the EC, the minister said: “It is positive for the politics and I hope that BNP will also take part in the next parliamentary election”.
Quader said AL does not want to attain victory by defeating weak contestants rather his party wants strong opponent in the next general polls.
“BNP had made a mistake as it did not take part in the previous national election. I don’t believe they (BN) will repeat the same mistake,” he said adding BNP is a strong rival as it is big political party.
“We want BNP’s participation in the next polls,” he added.
During the meeting, the minister gave different directives for controlling overloaded vehicles and ensuring quality of roads repairing. “Number of vehicles on roads and highways is increasing rapidly. Overloading of vehicles should be controlled,” he said. The minister said three back-to-back floods also caused massive damage of roads and highways across the country.
Roads and Highways Department Chief Engineer Ebne Alam Hasan, BRTA Chairman Md Mashiar Rahman, DTCA Executive Director Syed Ahmed and Road Transport and Highways Division additional secretaries, among others, were present on the occasion.
