block

Food Minister Quamrul Islam on Thursday urged the BNP-led 20-party alliance to withdraw its human chain programme scheduled for August 30.
“Awami League has a scheduled programme on August 30. Don’t create chaos by declaring
programme all of a sudden. I humbly request you (BNP) to withdraw your programme,” he said.
Quamrul, also joint general secretary of Awami League’s Dhaka city unit, said this while addressing a joint meeting of the party unit at its office at Bangabandhu Avenue.
AL Dhaka city unit will hold a discussion on August 30 at Suhrawardy Udyan at 3 pm, marking the National Mourning Day. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will attend the programme as the chief guest.
Meanwhile, the 20-party alliance has announced to form human chains in all district towns and cities, including Dhaka, on August 30, marking the ‘International Day of the Victims of Enforced Disappearance’.
Quamrul said, “If you (BNP) don’t have any intention to unleash terrorism and conflict then withdraw the programme. We’ll reply in a befitting manner in case of any anarchy.”
AL Dhaka city unit general secretary Mofazzel Hossain Chowdhury Maya, among others, spoke at the meeting held with its vice-president Bazlur Rahman in the chair.
