Staff Reporter :
Prime Minister’s International Affairs Adviser Dr Gawhar Rizvi said “Whether it is Congress or the BJP is in power, we will proceed with our interest”.
He said this at BBC-Bangladesh Sanglap at BIAM Auditorium in the city on Saturday evening.
BNP Vice Chairman Shamsher Mobin Chowdhury, Publisher of The New Age Shahidullah Khan Badal and Bangladesh Women Lawyers’ Association’s (BWLA) Executive Director Salma Ali participated in the dialogue.
Rizvi said the AL government would get support of
the BJP government as it used to get support of the Congress government.
He said there is little possibility of any shift in foreign policy with the change of Indian government.
” There was no discussion between Bangladesh-India on question of illegal migration during the last 30 years.”
Shamsher Mobin Chwdhury said that in India the government has come to power with a strong mandate while the scenario is different in Bangladesh. He expressed doubt over durability of the relations between the two governments.
On illegal migrant issue, he said India has to prove whether any illegal Bangla-deshi migrant is there.
Shahidullah Khan Badal said he did not think there will be change in India’s foreign policy following change of government as the political institutions of the country are quite strong.
The alliance partners of the BJP, he said, might try to create pressure on the government on question of foreign policy, he said.
Awami League used to maintain relation with the Indian Congress at personal. It does not maintain such relation with the BJP, so it might not get similar support from the BJP, he said.
