Awami League has drawn up a massive countrywide programme to observe the historic 7th March today as Bangabandhu had delivered his landmark speech on that day in 1971 directing the freedom-loving Bangalees for waging a decisive struggle against the Pakistan occupation forces.
This year, the day is much more significant for the nation as the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) has registered the landmark speech of Bangabandhu as a world documentary heritage.
The day’s programme will begin with the hosting of national and party flags atop all offices of the party across the country including Bangabandhu Bhaban and the central office of the party at 6.30am, paying tributes to Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman by placing wreaths at his portrait on the premises of Bangabandhu Bhaban at Dhanmondi at 7am.
Awami League (AL) will hold a massive public rally at 2pm at the historic Suhrawardy Udyan (then Race Course), the ground which witnessed the fiery speech of Bangabandhu on March 7 and the singing of instrument of surrender of Pakistan occupation forces on December 16, 1971 when Bangladesh attained victory over the Pakistani forces through the nine-month long bloodstained War of Liberation.
Prime Minister and Awami League President Sheikh Hasina will address the public rally as chief guest.
Party General Secretary and Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader, in a message on the eve of the day, urged the people of all strata, including the leaders and workers of the party, its associate and like-minded bodies across the country, to observe all programmes of the day in a befitting manner.
Quader said the historic 7th March speech of Bangabandhu will remain as a great source of inspiration to the Bangalee nation for ages.
The minister said the epoch-making 7th March speech of Bangabandhu, the greatest Bangalee of all times, has been included as “a classical art” in different books of the world.
“The historic speech of our great leader will always remain universal,” he said, adding the speech comes with an enduring spirit in all struggles and democratic movement of the Bangalee nation as well as deprived and exploited people of the world. Quader called upon all party leaders and workers to disseminate the historic speech of Bangabandhu with due respect in every ward, union, municipality, upazila, city and district on March 7.
