Awami League has suspended its 10 local leaders and activists for preparing to contest in the union chairman posts in Dewanganj upazila going against the party decision.
Those suspended are: Shah Mohammad Masud, president of the Dhangdhara union of Shramik League, the party’s labour front, Azizur Rahman Akanda, president of the Char Amkhawa union of AL, Al Lemon Mohammad Asaduzzaman Lemon, former president of the Tarram Rampur union unit of Jubo League, its youth front, Suruj Uddin, convener of the same unit of Swechchhasebak League, its volunteer front, Sohel Rana, member of the same unit of AL, Shahjahan Akanda.

The decision was taken at an emergency meeting of the executive committee of the upazila Awami League on May 15.
Upazila Awami League president Ishtiaq Hossain Didar disclosed the matter at a press briefing on Tuesday.
