The Bangladesh Awami League delegation led by its General Secretary Obaidul Quader on Saturday started election campaign aiming to reach the message of success of the government at grassroots level and strengthen the party.
The delegation will hold more than 11 rallies in Tangail, Pabna, Natore, Bogra, Joypurhat, Dinajpur and Nilphamari districts, said AL Rajshahi unit Organising Secretary Khaled Mahmud Chowdhury.
The delegation members include AL Joint-Secretary Jahangir Kabir Nanak, Publicity and Publication Secretary Dr Hasan Mahmud, Organising Secretaries Ahmad Hossain, Abu Sayed AL Mahmud Swapan, and Cultural Secretary Ashim Kumar Ukil.
Speaking at a rally on the Gharinda Railway Station in Tangail Obaidul Quader said, the AL under the leadership of Sheikh Hasina will win the next Parliamentary elections after foiling all conspiracies.
“We will not tolerate any ‘unrest’ right now and will take action against the rebellious leaders and activists,” he said.
“Don’t create unrest. We have begun to act against those who are engaged in creating unrest. You will get a show-cause notice within three days of the incident in any district,” he said.
Leaders and activists should not create any internal feud or factions in the party, he said, and instead be united and help the AL win the coming general election.
Meanwhile, passengers on Saturday suffered as the Nilsagar Express was delayed for around 30 minutes at Gharinda Railway Station in Tangail centering the tour of an AL delegation.
Usually, the Nilsagar Express halts for two minutes at the station, but yesterday it left the station delaying 30 minutes after its arrival due to the AL general secretary’s programme there, our local correspondent reports.
The normal activities at the railway station were also hampered due to gathering of several hundred local leaders and activists of AL and its front organisations at the station, sources said.
“Normally the Nilsagar Express enters Gharinda Rail Station at 10:10am and leaves the station at 10:12am,” Md Jalal Uddin, Station Master of Gharinda Rail Station, said.
“However, the train entered the station at 10:35am and left the station at 11:05am today,” he said.
“The passengers had to wait for the train due to the rally,” the station master said.
“Please wait for a while and there will be a Dhaka-Tangail train for office goers,” Obaidul Quader said in response to the locals’ questions at the public meeting in Tangail.
