AL stages anti-hartal demonstrations in city

The ruling Awami League, its associate and like-minded bodies on Monday staged demonstrations at different points in the city and brought out processions denouncing the dawn- to- dusk hartal called by Jamaat-e-Islami.
Since morning, leaders and workers of Dhaka City unit of Awami League (AL) and its associate bodies took position at Nur Hossain Square and Purana Paltan intersection and later brought out processions towards AL central office at Bangabandhu Avenue chanting anti-hartal slogans.
Dhaka City South unit of Awami Swechchhasebak League (ASL) held a rally at Bangabandhu Avenue in protest against hartal. Acting president of Dhaka City South ASL SM Murtaza presided over the rally, also addressed, among others, by ASL president Advocate Mollah Md Abu Kowsar, general secretary Pankaj Debnath, MP, organising secretary Sheikh Sohel Rana Tipu and Liberation War affairs secretary Rafiqul Islam Liton. Ariful Rahman Titu conducted the rally. Later, a big procession was taken out from the rally venue. The marchers paraded through different city streets and stopped in front of the National Press Club where another protest rally was organised by Bangabandhu Sangskritik Jote in the morning.
Dhaka City South unit Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) brought out a protest march against the hartal from Bangabandhu Avenue. Led by Dhaka
City South unit BCL president Bayezid Ahmed Khan, the marchers paraded through different streets and assembled in a rally at the starting point.
At about 11 am, Dhaka City South unit of Awami Juba League (AJL) also organised a rally at Bangabandhu Avenue from where a protest march was brought out.
President of the organisation Ismail Chowdhury Samrat presided over the rally, also addressed, among others, by AJL chairman Omar Faruque Chowdhury and general secretary Harun-ar-Rashid.
Also in the morning, Bangladesh Krishak League under the leadership of its
general secretary Advocate Shamsul Haque Reza brought out a procession from
its central office at Bangabandhu Avenue.
Awami Olama League and Awami Samarthak Jote formed separate human chains
in front of the South Gate of Baitul Mukarram National Mosque denouncing the
hartal called by Jamaat. Dhaka City AL general secretary and Relief and
Disaster Management Minister Mofazzal Hossain Chowdhury Maya (Bir Bikram),
Awlad Hossain Abdul Haque Sabuj, Shahidul Islam Milon and other city AL
leaders addressed the rally.
Besides, Dhaka City North unit BCL led by its president Syed Mizanur
Rahman and general secretary Mohiuddin Ahmed brought out anti-hartal marches
at Banani, Saat Rashter Morh, Mohakhali, Farm Gate and Panthapath areas in
the morning.
