Staff Reporter :The ruling Awami League-led 14-party alliance on Saturday declared that they would hold public rallies at 16 points in city tomorrow, (Monday) to mark what they term the ‘Victory Day for Democracy’. “We will hold public rallies at 16 venues, including Suhrawardy Udyan in city on January 5 to mark the ‘Victory Day for Democracy,” Awami League leader and Food Minister Quamrul Islam told journalists after 14-party meeting at Awami League party central office at Bangabandhu Avenue in city.Awami League-led 14-party coordinator and relief and Disaster Management Minister Mofazzal Hossain Chowdhury Maya chaired the meeting. Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal leader Mir Aktar Hossain, Samyabadi Dal leader Harun Chowdhury and other leaders of 14-party attended the meeting and took part in the discussion. In the capital, public rallies will be organised at the historic Suhrawardy Udyan, in front of Mirpur Purabi Cinema, Jurain-Shyampur Rail Gate, Demra-Jatrabari Ground, in front of Badda-Rampura Filling Station, Dhanmondi Road-32, Mirpur-1 Goal Chattar (Round Square), Lalbagh, Gulshan, Sutrapur, Tejgaon, Sabujbag-Khilgaon, Uttara, Kamrangirchar, Mohammadpur and Kafrul. Besides, public rallies will be organised in all the cities, including Dhaka, district and upazila headquarters simultaneously at 2-30 pm in observance of the Victory Day for Democracy on January 5.Quamrul Islam asked the leaders and workers of BNP not to take to the street saying the anti-liberation forces and their friends would not be allowed. “The leaders and workers of 14-party will celebrate the January 5 as the ‘Victory Day for Democracy as the 10th Parliamentary Election was held on this day a year ago,” he said. He said, leaders and workers of 14-party will take control of the streets on the day and asked the BNP not to create any chaotic situation. “If BNP tries to conduct any subversive activities, the law enforcers will take stern action against them,” he said. In a statement on Saturday, Awami League joint general secretary Mahbub-ul-Alam Hanif, MP, urged AL leaders concerned in particular and party units across the country in general to observe the Victory Day for Democracy in line with party programmes on January 5.
