UNB, Dhaka :
BNP senior leader Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain on Sunday alleged that Awami League is trying to create anarchy in the country with its plan to hold the 11th parliamentary elections under a partisan government making an excuse for constitution.
Speaking at a discussion, he also said the next general election will be farcical one if it is held under the Sheikh Hasina-led government.
“Election-time supportive government is now a people’s demand, and we’ll place our demand for installing such an administration. But the government is trying to create an anarchy and political instability over the polls. We want political stability and restoration of democracy and people’s voting rights,” the BNP leader said.
Bangladesh Gonotantrik Sangskritik Jote organised the programme at the Jatiya Press Club.
Mentioning that Awami League conducted a survey by the intelligence agencies he said, “As the survey results indicted that Awami League will face a massive debacle, the party itself is hatching various plots over the election.”
Mosharraf, a BNP standing committee member, also termed conspiratorial the ruling party leaders’ comment that their party chairperson Khaleda Zia will not return home as she fled the country in fear of facing cases filed against her.
He said Khaleda went to London for treatment, not for any other purpose. “She’ll return home once her treatment is completed, and place the election-time supportive government formula.”
The BNP leader said, opposition parties and people do not believe that a fair election will be possible under Sheikh Hasina. “If the next election is held under you (PM), it will be farcical one like that of January-5, 2014.”
He said the constitution can be amended through an understanding among the political parties for holding an inclusive election.
Mosharraf warned that if the government does not come to an understanding over the installation of an election-time supportive government, their party will realise their demand through a movement.
About the Election Commission’s roadmap for the next polls, he said it will not be effective to hold a credible election if there is no political understanding over the election-time neutral government.
