UNB, Dhaka :
Accusing Awami League leaders and activists for the violence in Araihazar upazila, Narayanganj, BNP acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Sunday alleged the government is trying to cling to power by resorting to terrorism.
“The current illegal regime that grabbed power through a voter-less election is trying to hang onto power by spreading terrorism,” he said.
In a statement, Fakhrul warned that no evil force behind the current regime will be able to keep it in power for a long time.
“The heaven of Saddat didn’t last long. The fall of those snatched people’s rights is inevitable,” Fakhrul added.
He alleged that the ruling party cadres, equipped with rods and sticks, attacked the supporters of Araihazar BNP leader Nazrul Islam Azad and injured 15-20 people on Sunday.
They also damaged and looted houses and shops of BNP men following the incident, he further alleged.
Fakhrul demanded the government immediately arrest and mete out punishment to those involved in the violence.
