The ruling Bangladesh Awami League (AL) on Monday celebrated its 65th founding anniversary urging the people to strengthen the foundation of democracy.
At a rally held in the Suhrawardy Udyan in the city, the Awami League leaders said that party’s return to the power was necessary for the continuation of the pace of development in the country.

and AL General Secretary Syed Ashraful Islam, Commerce Minister Tofail Ahmed, AL Advisory Council member Advocate Yousuf Hossain Humayun, Presidium Member Matia Chowdhury, Post and Telecommunication Minister Abdul Latif Siddique, Sheikh Fazlul Karim Selim, Sahara Khatun, Doctor Dipu Moni, Hasan Mahmud and Abdus Sobhan Golap, among others, were present at the rally organised by the Dhaka city unit of the party.
The rally was followed by colourful procession that paraded different city streets.
The party observed the founding anniversary through elaborate programmes including rallies and processions across the country.
The national and the party flags were hoisted atop all the party offices, wreaths were placed at the portrait of country’s first President Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman at Bangabandu Museum in the city’s Dhanmondi and balloons and pigeons were released.

Addressing the rally in the city, Syed Ashraful Islam said, AL has glorious history. The party guided the nation during the crucial moments, including the Liberation War. He asked the leaders and activists of the party all over the country to work more in the interest of the country. He said, there is no alternative to the leadership of Sheikh Hasina for the development of the nation.
A huge colourful procession was brought out after the rally, which ended at Dhanmondi, Road No 32, after parading different city streets.
