AL men set fire to rice mill in Jessore

The police along with Awami League men went on rampage at Deyara and Baromekhla villages and adjacent area under Jessore Sadar and Jhikargachha upazilas early Sunday.
The alleged law enforcers burnt Ruma Rice Mills owned by Jhikargachha union council chairman Khorshed Alam and ransacked the residences of Sajjadul Alam, organizing secretary, Kotwali thana unit BNP, Abdul Majid, vice president, Deyara union unit BNP, M Anu, President, Baromekhla ward unit BNP and Jamaat-e-Islami activist Sazzadul Haque Bilu. But the police refused the information of their involvement.
Locals and police miscreants torched a rice -laden truck and a private car on Jess ore- Benapole Road at Natunhat area under Jessore sadar upazila on Saturday night.
Driver of the truck Nazim Uddin, 25 of Momrejpur under Kaligonj upazila in Jhenidah received burn wounds while the passengers of the private car managed to escape from burn wounds.
The driver told that he received burn wounds as miscreants set his truck and a private car on fire at around 10 pm on Saturday. The driver was undergoing treatment at Jessore Medical College Hospital. Enamul Haque, officer in-charge, Kotwali police station confirmed the information of setting fire on the truck and private car.
Awami League men with the help of the police went on rampage at several villages under Jessore and adjacent Jhikargachha upazila at dead night after the incident.
The villages include Baromekhla and Chhotomekhla under Jessore sadar upazila and Joykrishnapur and Teghori under Jhikargachha upzila.
Shilpi Khatun, a labourer, Ruma Rice Mill told that she along with two little children had to suffer in shivering cold under open sky as miscreants threatened to burn them.
Bazlur Rahman, head of labourers told that the police compelled the residents who were living in makeshifts inside the mill compound, to get out of residences. ‘We saw flames of fire from a papaya field,’ he added.
Sifayet Hossain Mohon, brother of the mill owner told that about 700 sacks of good quality rice were burnt in the fire.
Mamunur Rashid, officer in- charge, Jhikargachha police station told that Jhikargachha station police did not take part in such operation. He, however, said he hear the information.
