AL leader’s leg amputated in Mirzaganj

Unidentified miscreants amputated a leg of a local Awami League leader at Bajita Protham Khanda village under Madhavkhali union under Mirzaganj upazila of Patuakhali district on early Sunday.
The victim was identified as Halim Molla, 40, union AL secretary and local UP member and he admitted in critical condition at Barisal Sher E Bangla Medical College Hospital. Azimul Huq, Patuakhali district additional police superintendent, Khan Md. Abubakar Siddique, upazila chairman, Md. Abu Sayeed Molla, upazila nirbahi officer, Habibur Rahman, police station officer in charge of Mirzaganj, visiting the spot Sunday assured to nab the attackers for trial.
Family and police sources said a group of miscreants breaking backside door entering in the house made all residents hostages under arms.The attackers dragging Halim Molla from the home to the courtyard and amputating his right leg from knee with axe left the place with amputated leg, said Lima Aktar, eldest daughter of the victim.
Hearing the clamors local people rushed to the spot and sent him to Barisal Sher E Bangla Medical College Hospital.
Sheuli Begum, wife of the victim, said they have enmity with local AL leader Latif Molla over post of president of the local primary school managing committee and with some other people about a housing project.
Kazi Mizanur Rahman, union AL president, said it maybe happened due to old rivalry.
Till this report no case was lodged in this connection and police investigating the matter, said OC Mirzaganj police station.
