AL leaders illegally cut trees in Kulaura

 Over 30-40 trees out of two thousands in Kaliti Tea Garden under Kulaura Sadar union under Kulaura Upazila of Moulvibazar have been felled from on May18 allegedly defying rules.
 It is alleged that Kulaura Upazila Sramik League President and Kulaura Sadar Union UP Chairman Md. Shahjahan and UP member Kibria Hosain [another person] started cutting trees of different species including mahogany and eucalyptus in the garden.
They claimed that they bought 2000 trees from tea garden authority at Tk 50 lakh .
Abdul Karim Kim, General Secretary of BAPA of Sylhet unit said by visiting the area I have come to know that destruction of the environment is designed to cut the trees. Local Moncherra Bit officer Riaz Uddin said, tea garden authority submitted application for cutting trees. But they didn’t get any permission. Without was taking permission or arranging auction.
Asked about the matter, UP Chairman Md. Shahjahan told this correspondent over cell phone, “We cut down several dead trees adjacent to people’s houses as those created risk and nuisance for them. Other hand we bought 2000 trees from tea garden authority at taka 50 lakh”.
Contacted, Robiul Hasan, Manager of Kaliti Tea garden confirmed the matter to The New Nation. It is actually expired trees.
