Upazila Election: AL leaders busy for lobbying to get nomination

Awami League (AL) leaders are lobbying to get the nominations for chairman, male vice-chairman and female vice-chairman posts in the upcoming Bagerhat Sadar Upazila Parishad (UZ) polls while BNP leaders remain silent, local sources said.
From Facebook campaigns, the expected AL candidates for chairman posts are: District Jubao League Convener Sardar Nasir Uddin, Sadar Upazila President Sheikh Akhtaruzzaman Bachchu, Karapara Union Parishad (UP) Chairman Sheikh Boshirul Islam, Sramik League President Rezaur Rahman Mintu and current Chairman Khan Mujibur Rahman of the district.
Expected AL candidates for male vice-chairman post are: Bagerhat Municipal Mayor Khan Habibur Rahman’s nephew Tanvir Hasan Lipon, Shwechcha Shebak League leader Sardar Abdul Kader, Sramik League Joint General Secretary Selim Mahamud, Sadar UZ AL Vice-President Khan Rezaul Islam, young AL leader Md. Amirul Islam and existing Vice-Chairman Sardar Masudur Rahman.
Expected candidates for female vice-chairman post are: current Vice-chairman Advocate Parvin Ahmed, Bagerhat District AL (Female) Joint General Secretary Talukder Rina Sultana, Juba Mahila League Convener Advocate Luna Siddique and Coordinator of Rupantor Rizia Parveen.
BNP candidates are silent about the UZ polls, albeit, they are upset about the national election. They are waiting for the central party’s decision, sources said.
Candidates from Islami Andolon expressed their willingness to participate in the polls, but no name of any candidate is declared yet.
