Police recovered the body of a local Awami League leader at Battali in Pekua upazila of the district on Wednesday morning.
The deceased was identified as AKM Shahabuddin Forazi, 55, son of late Moulovi Golam Haydar, a resident of Pashchim Shonaichari village.
Shahabuddin was the president of Pekua upazila unit of the ruling Awami League.
Family sources of the deceased said Shahabuddin had gone missing on Tuesday afternoon.
Later, locals spotted his body at Battala around 7am on Wednesday, said Officer-in-charge of Pekua Police Station Abdur Rakib.
On information, police rushed to the spot and recovered the body, the OC added.
