Md Humayun Master, 30, General Secretary of Bulakipur Union Unit of Awami League in Ghoraghat upazila of the district was stabbed to death by miscreants on Sunday afternoon.
Police and witnesses said, a group of 20/25 Jamaat-Shibir activists riding on ten motorcycles swooped on Humayun at his rice mill at Bologari Bazar around 2:00 pm and stabbed him indiscriminately, leaving him seriously injured.
Humayun, son of Dr Ahad Ali of Lohabandar village, was rushed to the
upazila health complex. Later, he was shifted to Rangpur Medical College Hospital (RMCH) as his condition deteriorated. He succumbed to his injuries at 5:40 pm at the RMCH.
Saroj Kumar, Inspector of Ghoraghat Police Station, said the attackers first cut off his wrist and then stabbed him indiscriminately. However, the reason behind the attack could not be known immediately.
Rafiqul Islam, President of Bulakipur Union AL, demanded immediate arrest of the Jamaat-Shibir men who killed Humayun Master.
Refuting the allegation, the Ameer of Ghoraghat Upazila Unit of Jamaat said that his party men were not involved in the killing.
Additional police have been deployed in the area to avert any further incident, said the inspector.
