A local Awami League (AL) leader was shot to death in Banglabazar area of Noakhali Sadar upazila early Sunday.
The victim has been identified as Abul Hossain, President of the AL Ward No 4 unit of Underchar Union, police said.
Sudharam Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Anwar Hossain said that a gang of miscreants shot him on Sunday midnight when he was returning home from Banglabazar on foot.
Locals rushed him to Noakhali Sadar Hospital where the on-duty doctors Not only that, the ruling party men are hindering the BNP’s election campaign, he added.
For examples, Rizvi said AL goons carried out an attack on a pre-scheduled meeting of BNP Chairman candidate at Rangabali Upazila in Patuakhali, adding that the village home of the new Chief Election Commissioner is around 25 kilometers from Rangabali.
“How will the CEC control election in the whole country when he is unable to stop election violence in his own area?” Rizvi questioned.
He also alleged that the local administration and the law enforcement agencies were not taking any preventive measures despite submission of many complaints.
In reply to a question, Rizvi said, the BNP is taking part in the local body elections in a bid to restore multi-party democracy in the country.
BNP central leader Ataur Rahman Dhali, Khairul Kabir Khokon, Abdus Salam Azad and Munir Hossain, among others, were present.
