Torture of children: AL leader sent to jail

A Kishoreganj court sent a local Awami League activist to jail on Thursday on charge of torturing six school children for plucking fruits from one of his trees on last Wednesday.
The victim students are Md. Imran, Sajib Mia, Md. Apon, Raquib Miah, Hridoy and Akash. All except Hridoy are students of Class V of Khilpara Shahed Ali Government Primary School under Maria Union of Kishoreganj Sadar Upazila. Hridoy reads in Class IV.
According to the case story, the victim students plucked fruits from one of the trees of local AL activist Abu Hanif He caught hold of them, tied with rope and then clubbed them. Getting the news, the teachers of the school went to the spot and freed them.
Being aggrieved, Jalal Uddin, one of the teachers, filed a case with Kishoreganj Model thana. Police arrested the accused the same night and produced him in the court on last Thursday.
The Officer-in-Charge of Kishoreganj Model Thana Abushama Md. Iqbal Hayat said, police rescued the victims and sent them to the Kishoreganj Sadar Hospital for treatment, and arrested Abu Hanif.
