Unknown miscreants killed a local leader of Awami League (AL) by slitting his throat at Balaishpur village in Sadar upazila on Tuesday night.
The deceased was identified as Mafiz Ullah, organising secretary of the Bashikpur union unit of AL and son of late Abdul Aziz of the village.
Quoting family members, police said miscreants attacked Mafiz while he was returning home from a local market at about 10:30 pm. Later, they slaughtered Mafiz and slit his throat to ensure his death and left the scene hurriedly. Local people spotted the body at night and informed police. Later, police recovered the
body and sent it to Laxmipur Sadar Hospital morgue for an autopsy. Assistant superintendent of police Nasim Miah confirmed the murder. A case was filed in this connection.
