Detectives arrested a local leader of Awami League (AL) in possession of forged Indian currency notes amounting to one lakh rupees from his house at Chandrapur village in Sharsha upazila of Jessore district on Saturday night.
The arrestee was identified as Obaidur Rahman, general secretary of the Dighi union unit of AL and son of late Idris Ali of the same village.
Sub-inspector Murad Hossain of the Detective Branch (DB) of police, Jessore, said on secret information, a team of DB police conducted a raid on the house of Obaidur in the area and arrested him at about 9:00 pm.
Later, they recovered one lakh counterfeit notes of Indian rupees after searching his house.
He was taken to Jessore DB office for interrogation.
