A local leader of Awami League was found dead at Sotayabanpur village in Sadar upazila on Saturday, two days after he had gone missing.
The deceased was identified as Zikrul Mia, 50, general secretary of Baharbagh Union unit of AL.
Officer-in-charge of Sadar Police Station Munshi Asaduzzaman said Zikrul remained missing since some unidentified people called him from his house on the night of May 27.
Local people found the floating body of Zikrul in a pond of the village in the morning and informed police.
Later, law enforcers recovered the body and sent it hospital morgue.
