Four men, including ruling Awami League’s Faridganj municipal unit chief, were detained on Thursday night for gambling at the Upazila Parishad Chattar.
They are – Awami League leader Motahar Hossain, municipal mayor’s bodyguard Billal Hossain, Anwar Hossain of Keroa village and Mamun Hossain of Dakkhin Kachhiapara village.
A team of Faridganj Police Station raided the area acting on a tip-off.
Abdur Rakib, in-charge of Faridganj Police Station, said gambling tools and Tk 12,000 were seized from them.
He said a case was filed against the detainees on Thursday night. They were produced before the Chandpur court on Friday morning which sent them to jail custody.
