A Pro-Awami League lawyer of Sonagazi upazila of Feni district was expelled from its party post on Thursday for assisting Madrasa Principal Sirajuddoula in a case filed for sexually assaulting Nusrat Jahan Rafi.
The lawyer, Advocate Kazi Bulbul Sohag, was the General Secretary of Sonagazi’s Kazirbag union unit of Bangladesh Awami League and also Union Parishad Chairman.
Awami League President of Feni district unit Abdur Rahman said, Bulbul, who is also an Advocate, stood for key accused Principal Sirajuddoula of Sonagazi Senior Fazil Madrasa in the case.
Following the directive of the party’s central committee Bulbul was expelled for violating party rules, he said.
After fighting for her life for five days, madrasa girl Nusrat succumbed to her injuries at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) on Wednesday night.
On April 6, Rafi was set afire in the examination centre of Alim examination allegedly by students loyal to Principal Sirajuddoula of Sonagazi Senior Fazil Madrasa after he was arrested and subsequently suspended as Rafi had accused him of sexually harassing her.
