UNB, Dhaka :
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Saturday said Awami League has to fulfill the promises it made to people to give them a prosperous life.
“Remember, we’re pledged-bound to give people a prosperous life…the Father of the Nation had said this …we’ll implement his ideals,” she said while addressing a two-day special extended meeting of the party at her official residence Ganobhaban.
The Prime Minister said, Bangladesh is now regarded as a role model in the world. “We’ve achieved this through our works. We don’t run the country in sleep, we know the country’s problems, we know how people are living in a particular area under what condition… we work out our development programmes keeping those in mind,” she said. Sheikh Hasina, also the chief of the ruling Awami League, asked the party leaders and activities to remain vigil so that there could no irregularity in any development programme.
Laying emphasis on making the party stronger from the grassroots level, she asked its leaders and workers to project her government’s development activities regularly. “You’ll have to remind them repeatedly that the AL government has done these development works for them.”
Terming power a chance to perform responsibilities, the Prime Minister said, “We need to keep in mind one thing that remaining in power is not a matter of enjoyment, this is, in fact, a chance to discharge

responsibilities,” she said. Hasina mentioned that the grassroots leaders and activities of the Awami League had always kept the organisation vibrant and bold. “And they had always given the right decision…they always took the right decision at the right time and strengthened the organisation.”
As soldiers of the ideals of Bangabandhu, she said, it is the responsibility of the leaders and workers of the party to devote themselves to the welfare of people.
“It’s not a matter how much you get… it’s the matter how much you have been able to give to the people of the country…we want this from you,” she said.
Presidents, general secretaries, information secretaries, office secretaries and their deputies, publicity and publication secretaries and their deputies of 77 organisational district units were invited to the meeting. All AL MPs were also invited.
Referring to her party’s vision 2021 and vision 2041, the Awami League President said it has been advancing the country with a specific and far-sighted plan by undertaking five-year and 10-year long perspective plans.
Sheikh Hasina said, Awami League had established the right to mother tongue, gave an independent country as well as dignity, development and prosperity in the past, and it has now been working to ensure people’s food, cloth, housing, healthcare, education and social safety.
On the other hand, she said, the governments led by Zia, Ershad and Khaleda played ducks and drakes with the fate of people. They had used power as an opportunity to relish and enjoy, leaving the mass people in a poor condition.
BNP, if it can return to power, will again create ‘Hawa Bhaban’ and ‘Khamma Bhaban’ to loot public money, she said.
The Prime Minister directed her AL leaders and workers to strengthen the party and project various success stories of her government so that the common people can differentiate Awami League with other parties.
Hasina said her government has made the country free from curse by executing the trial of war criminals, and it has been working to ensure the overall development of the country saying no one will remain homeless and not a single family would live without health care, education and employment.
