Terming the present Awami League government journalist and mass media friendly, Information Minister Hasanul Huq Inu on Monday said the present administration led by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina believes in the freedom of press.
The information minister said this while replying to a written question of treasury bench member Nurul Islam Omar in the Jatiya Sangsad.
He said the government has constituted the ‘journalist welfare trust’ for helping the media personnel.
The government has enacted the ‘Bangladesh Journalists Welfare Trust Act 2014’ and formulated the ‘Bangladesh Journalists Welfare Trust Policy, 2016’ for the greater welfare of the journalists, he added.
Replying to another question of treasury bench member Dr M Enamur Rahman, Inu said the government has undertaken various programmes for the promotion of quality films to restore the lost glory of the film industry.
“Bangabandhu Film City” would be built with modern facilities at Kaliakoir at a cost of Taka 19.80 crore for the development the film industry side by side with generating employment, he added.
