A local Awami League activist was killed and 10 others were injured in a clash between two factions of the ruling party over establishing supremacy in Khazra union of Ashashuni upazila on Sunday. The deceased was identified as Ashraf Ali Mollah, son of Amin Mollah of Khazra union.The injured were admitted to different hospitals and clinics. Officer-in-charge Ahsan Habib of Ashashuni Police Station said the two groups of Awami League-one led by incumbent chairman of Khazra union Shah Newaz Dalim and the other by its former chairman Ruhul Quddus-locked in the clash in Godaipur area around 5:30 pm.A chase and counter-chase took place during the melee that left at least 11 people, including Ashraf, injured from the both sides.About 25 crude bombs were also exploded during the clash.On information, police rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control.Critically injured Ashraf died on the way to Paikgachha Upazila Health Complex in Khulna.Locals said the two rival factions of the ruling party earlier locked in several clashes over establishing dominance in the locality. At least 27 people were injured in such a clash between the rival factions a week back.
