Awami League Presidium Member Sheikh Selim said the declaration of party’s forthcoming national council is being prepared with guidelines for developing Bangladesh as a self-reliant country.
“The AL’s next election manifesto will be made in light of this declaration,” he said this on Thursday while speaking at a meeting of AL national council declaration subcommittee meeting at party president’s Dhanmondi office in the city.
Sheikh Selim is the convener of the declaration subcommittee of AL’s 20th national council to be held at historic Suhrawardy Udyan in the city on October 22-23.
He said it will be made clear in the declaration that Bangladesh will no more go under an unelected government.
It will also be mentioned in the declaration that the government will be changed through ballot, not bullet, he added.
Sheikh Selim said there will be the issue of war crimes trial as usual in the declaration. The trial process will continue till the existence of a single war criminal, he added.
The AL leader said the declaration will make public 10 mega projects meant for turning Bangladesh into a middle income country by 2021 and developed country by 2041.
The issue of social safety net and removing rich-poor disparity and various government steps will get room in the declaration, he added.
AL Presidium Member Matia Chowdhury and other members of the subcommittee, including Mahbub-ul-Alam Hanif, Dr. Dipu Moni, Ahmad Hossain, AFM Bahauddin Nasim, Abu Sayeed AL Mahmud Swapan, Khalid Mahmud Chowdhury, Dr. Abdur Razzak and Faridunnahar Laili were present at the meeting.
