AL celebrates its 68th anniversary

Bangladesh Awami League (AL) and its different front organizations yesterday celebrated the party’s 68th founding anniversary through various programs in the city as elsewhere in the district.
The programs included bringing out processions, placing wreaths at the portrait of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, hoisting of national and party flags atop all party offices and discussion meetings. Chittagong city, north and south district units of AL and its front organizations brought out colorful processions this morning from Party office at Darulfazal market ending at Shahid Minar premises after parading important city streets this noon.
Thousands of jubilant workers and supporters carrying placards, banners, portraits of Bangabandhu and his daughter Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina chanted slogans in favor of peace, progress and against politics of destruction. Chittagong city AL organized a discussion meeting and Doa Mahfil at the city’s Zilla Parisad auditorium.
Former City Mayor and President of Chittagong city Awami League A B M Mohiuddin Chowdhury presided over the function while Vice-chancellor of Premier University of Chittagong Dr Anupom Sen addressed the function as chief discussant.
City Mayor and General Secretary of city AL A J M Nasir Uddin, AL leaders Mahtab Uddin Chow-dhury, Badiul Alam and Advocate Iftakher Saimul Chowdhury, among others, addressed it. A B M Mohiuddin Chowdhury said Bangladesh would not come into being if Bangabandhu was not born in this part of the world. He said Bangabandhu brought the county’s independence through his lifelong sacrifices, dynamism and long movement.
The vested quarters, he said, created black history by killing Bangabandhu along with his family members on August 15 in 1975. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has brought back the glory of Bangabandhu after long political movement against the conspirators, he added.
Chittagong north district AL also organized separate discussion meeting on the occasion. Chittagong North district AL President Nurul Alam Chowdhury and its General Secretary M A Salam, among others, spoke.
