Bangladesh Awami League (AL) and its different front organizations on Tuesday celebrated the party’s 66th founding anniversary through various programmes in the city as elsewhere in the district.
The programmes included bringing out processions, placing wreaths at the portrait of the father of the nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, hoisting national and party flags and discussion meetings.
Chittagong city, north and south district units of AL and its front organisations brought out colourful processions in the morning.
Defying daylong drizzle the colourful procession of City AL started from Laldighi Maidan and ended at Shahid Minar premises after parading through important city streets .
Thousands of jubilant workers and supporters carrying placards, banners, portraits of Bangabandhu and his daughter Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and chanted slogans in favour of peace, progress and against politics of destruction.
Meanwhile, Chittagong city AL organised a discussion meeting, Doa Mahfil and Ifter Party at the city’s Rima Convention center on the occasion of 66th founding anniversary of the country’s oldest political party Al.
Former City Mayor and President of Chittagong city Awami League A B M Mohiuddin Chowdhury presided over the function while Former MP and AL leader Ishak Mia, Vice Chancellor of Chittagong University Dr Iftakher uddin, Chowdhury, AL leaders Mahtab Uddin Chowdhury, Badiul Alam and Advocate Iftakher Saimul Chowdhury, among others, addressed it.
Addressing the function A B M Mohiuddin Chowdhury said Bangladesh had not come into being if Bangabandhu was not born in this part of the world. He said Bangabandhu brought the county’s independence through his lifelong sacrifices, dynamism and long movement. He also said the vested quarters started black history by killing Bangabandhu and members of his family on August 15 in 1975. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has brought back the glory of Bangabandhu after long political movement against the conspirators, he added. In the morning, AL leaders in presence of huge number of workers hoisted atop the national and party flags at the city AL office at Darul Fazal Market. In observance of the day, Chittagong south district AL placed wreaths at the portrait of Bangabandhu and cut cake at its Andarkilla party office .
Chittagong south district AL President Muslem Uddin Ahmed, General Secretary Mafizur Rahman and Wasika Aiyesha Khan, MP, among others, attended the function.
Besides, Chittagong North District Awami League also organised separate discussion meetings on the occasion of the 66th founding anniversary of Awami League.
