UNB, Dhaka :BNP on Wednesday alleged that ruling party men are carrying out ‘armed hooliganism’ by establishing a reign of terror across the country ahead of the next phases of Union Parishad (UP) polls.”About 45 people were killed and over 5,000 others injured in the first two phases of the UP polls as the ruling party men went on rampage. Now they again started violent activities all over the country equipped with arms ahead of third and fourth phases of the elections,” said BNP senior joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi.Speaking at a press briefing at BNP’s Nayapaltan central office, he also said, “Panic has spread out to villages and localities as ruling party men are staging armed showdown there. They keep on threatening BNP leaders and activists and voters to refrain them from going to polling stations.” Rizvi alleged that the ruling party ‘cadres’ are attacking BNP candidates and their supporters and intimidating them in different areas, including Narayanganj, Mymensingh, Bandarban, Munshiganj, Gazipur and Bogra. The BNP leader said their party was expecting that the next phases of election will be held in a peaceful manner as the Election Commission at a press note assured it. “But, still they didn’t take any visible step to this end.”The third phase of UP polls will be held on April 23 while the fourth phase on May 3.
