The BNP on Tuesday said that the Awami League cannot be forgiven as it has snatched people’s voting rights.
“The Awami League has snatched people’s right to franchise. The democracy was buried through December 30 general polls. The people will not forgive the AL,” said BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir in a
view exchange meeting with BNP leaders and activists at Mirza Ruhul Amin auditorium at Thakurgaon.
He said, “The BNP has not been defeated in the election. It is the Awami League which sustained moral defeat, and cut our spirit of the 1971 Liberation War. The dawn has been blacked out.”
Mirza Fakhrul said, the AL was violating the Constitution and destroying the democratic future of Bangladesh. In these circumstances, the people should raise their voices to restore democracy. He claimed 2.6 million people were accused in 98,000 cases across the country.
“It has been proved further that a fair election is impossible under Awami League government. Our decision to boycott the 2014 polls was correct,” the BNP leader said.
Mirza Fakhrul repeatedly demanded for a fresh election scrapping the results of the December 30 polls.
Besides, BNP Senior Joint-Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi the same day asked the Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader to step down as the road accident is increasing and causing huge casualties every day.
“The Road and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader should step down as he failed to stop road accident spree,” Rizvi said at a press conference at the party’s Nayapaltan Office.
He said, “The Minister is liable for the increasing road accident and for his Ministry’s mismanagement,” Rizvi said.
