Awami League (AL) mayoral candidate has unofficially won mayoral elections in Ulipur Municipality in Kurigram district.
AL-nominated candidate Mamun Sarkar Mithu bagged 15,567 votes, while his nearest rival BNP-backed candidate Md Haidar Ali Mia got 7,413 votes and Islami Andolan Bangladesh candidate Alhaj Hafez Ataur Rahman received 3,528 votes.
The election in 113 booths of 18 polling centres was held from 8:00am to 4:00pm on Saturday under the third phase.
There were 37,915 voters in the election.
Three candidates contested for mayor post, while 51 candidates contested for councillor posts and 13 for reserved woman posts.
