Mayor candidates of both Awami League’s Jahangir Alam and BNP’s Hasan Uddin Sarkar submitted their nomination papers for Gazipur City Corporation polls on Thursday.
They submitted their nomination papers along with huge number of supporters at the temporary office of Returning Officer at Bangotaj auditorium.
Awami League candidate Jahangir Alam has submitted the nomination paper at 11:00 am while the BNP’s Hasan Uddin Sarker at 1:00 pm on Thursday. Awami League’s Local Government Nomination Board has finalised the party’s candidature of Jahangir Alam as Gazipur mayor on Monday last.
On the other hand, BNP picked up Hasan Sakker as the mayoral candidate of Gazipur City Corporation polls on Monday night.
After the submission of nomination paper, Jahangir Alam said, “There is no faction in Gazipur Awami League. We all are united. We will make a history that Gazipur city is role model for the practice of democracy.”
BNP’s Hasan Uddin Sarker, after submitting the nomination paper, said, “The city corporation election will reflect in the next parliament elerctions and release of Begum Khaleda Zia. All the leaders and workers of BNP will work together.”
During the submission of Hasan Sarker’s nomination, BNP leaders Fazlul Haque Milon, Kazi Sayedul Alam Babul, Sohrab Uddin, Shahiduzzaman, Mir Halimuzzaman Nani, Advocate Siddiqur Rahman, Advocate Mehedi Hasan Alice, among others, were present.
