Policy makers of ruling Awami League (AL) and BNP are now busy preparing election manifestos for their mayoral aspirants highlighting steps to resolve basic city problems to woo votes from the city dwellers.
Sources said both the parties have formed high-level committees to prepare the manifestos. The aspirants will announce their electoral pledges through media briefing soon.
AL has formed a five-member body led by its presidium member Nuh Alam Lenin while a team of pro-BNP academics and professionals led by Prof Emajuddin Ahmed, former vice-chancellor of Dhaka University, is working to prepare electoral pledges of their candidates.
Earlier, AL has extended its support to mayoral candidates Syeed Khokon and Annisul Huq for the Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) and Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) polls.
On the other hand, BNP finalised the candidature of Mirza Abbas for the mayoral polls in DSCC. But the party is yet to finalise its candidate in the DNCC.
“AL is preparing election manifesto for its mayoral candidates in DNCC and DSCC.
Basic civil problems will be included in the manifestoes outlining plans to their solutions,” Nuh Alam Lenin told The New Nation on Sunday.
He added: It’s a local body election so a unique manifesto will be presented to woo voters,” said Nuh Alam Lenin.
“We are working on the issue,” said Prof Emajuddin Ahmed, adding, “Election pledges for our candidates will be finalised by April 7”.
He added that the election campaign of the BNP-backed candidates will be held under the platform of ‘Adarsha Dhaka Gorar Andalon’ with slogans ‘Nirapad Dhaka Chai, Parichhanya Dhaka Chai’.
